I Rest My Case!!!

Oh Brother….I know this is tense…but did you read this article in the Fort Collins Coloradoan on Friday?
So, again I say….if we want this to be legal…lets just make it legal. But if you think this is still about patient care or medicine….you just don’t get it.

Rulon, I think the issue is that the only way for it to become legal, is to start with what is already accepted – what already has a small finger-grip on the circumstance; and that is provided by its – albeit relatively small – medical need. It’s more about the freedom for individuals to put into their own bodies what they want – regardless of medical benefits or not. Who am I to tell you what to eat/drink/breathe?
Medical, peer reviewed research has shown THC to have medical benefits (It’s also supported by many national and international medical organizations such as the AMA). Medical, peer-reviewed research has also shown both Tobacco and Alcohol to be infinitely more damaging to physical, mental, and family health – in fact very, very little in the way of complications has been found associated with marijuana.
It’s been illegal for so long and has had such a smear compaign run over it for the last 50 years by politicians that older generations are still “stuck” in the propoganda of the past. I encourage you to research why it was actually banned in the first place.
I agree that if it’s only to be released for medical purposes, much, much more regulation is needed. I, however, say it should be legalized completely and taxed.
I typed you a 5 page letter in response to a previous posting on this issue but for some reason, I just never delivered it. I wish I had. Maybe I still will at some point…
Would you also have alcohol and tobacco banned in the same manner as marijuana simply because there are (more than) a few alcoholics with lung cancer? I’m sure you enjoy an occasional beer or glass of wine every now and then. I’m sure you know the risks associated with drinking even a little and appreciate the freedom you have to make the decision for yourself.
It’s important to think about health and safety but if everything was about wellbeing and health, everything under the sun would be banned and people would be required by law to exercise daily, regulated on what to eat, etc. Sacrificing our freedom is not necessary. There are other, cheaper, more efficient ways to deal with this issue besides simply banning the substance and pushing it under the rug.
